Gumi City Selected as Priority Negotiation Site for KOVO Cup Competition Opening October 14 for the 2023-24 season

The Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) held the 19th 2nd board meeting. This board meeting was held on the evening of the 19th.

At this meeting, agenda items such as the venue for the Dodram V-League All-Star Game in the 2022-23 season, the selection of priority negotiation areas for the 2023 KOVO Cup, and the V-League schedule for the 2023-24 season were discussed.

The 2022-23 season V-League All-Star Game, scheduled to be held on January 29 next year (2023), will be played at Samsan Gymnasium in Incheon, which is used as the home court by Heungkuk Life Insurance in the women’s division. KOVO said, “The board of directors carefully reviewed the pros and cons of each city for the candidate region for the All-Star Game.” The final decision was made to hold the All-Star Game at Samsan Gymnasium in Incheon.”

KOVO said, “In order to select a local government to host the cup competition in a fair way, we prepared evaluation criteria and formed a committee to conduct the evaluation. As a result, Gumi City, which has Gumi Park Chung-hee Gymnasium, which can accommodate 6,200 spectators, as the new venue for the cup competition, is the preferred area for negotiation.” “We plan to finish the selection-related work as soon as possible,” he said.

Gumi City is where the V-League ointment was. LIG Insurance, the predecessor of KB Insurance in the men’s department, used the home area from 2005 to 2017, and the women’s department also had home connections with Korea Expressway Corporation and GS Caltex.

If Gumi City is selected as the final host of the cup competition, it will meet the V-League again in about six seasons since March 2017, the last game of the 2016-17 season.

The 2023-24 season V-League schedule has also been confirmed. The next season’s V-League will start on October 14, 2023 and run until April 6, 2024. As before, 126 matches will be played in each of the men’s and women’s divisions over 6 rounds.

Matches are held at 19:00 on weekdays and at 14:00 for men and 16:00 for women on weekends. League rest days will be held on Mondays for both men and women.
